Tbo Touch says the fifth Replenishment Concert, at Sandown in Sandton on 31 October, will be the gospel event's last. Joyous Celebration are on the bill.
The Replenishment Concert will end after its fifth edition, in Sandton on Saturday, 31 October. Its founder, the broadcaster Tbo Touch (Thabo Molefe), announced the decision in a video on his Instagram account this week.
"This is our last Replenishment Concert," he said. "I wanna thank everybody who's been there since day one. This is the fifth year now." He added: "If you are coming to this year's Replenishment, you are literally coming to a farewell."
He did not give a reason for ending it.
Molefe started Replenishment in 2022 as a gospel day out that would feel different from a conventional church concert. "I felt that we needed to create an experience where faith and excellence could exist in the same room," he told TshisaLIVE in August, when he announced that the event was leaving Centurion.
The first four editions were held at SuperSport Park. This one moves to Sandown High Top Field, on the corner of Rivonia Road and Grayston Drive. Gates open at 11am and the programme runs from noon until 11pm. Tickets are sold through Howler.
Joyous Celebration, Judith Sephuma, Kabelo Mabalane, Xolly Mncwango, Dr Tumi, Nothando Hlophe, Mmatema, Sbu Noah, Jumbo, The Jesus Collective and Khaya Mthethwa are among the acts listed. Alphi Mkhwanazi was named as host in August. Earlier editions featured Rebecca Malope, Benjamin Dube, Bishop Hezekiah Walker and Bishop Noel Jones.
Molefe said the production employs more than 612 people this year. "We created jobs," he said. "We're doing it like it's a grand closing, which technically it is, what it is."
He also said he hoped the concert's five years would be documented and could end up on a streaming platform. No such deal has been announced.
